The new CARD/1 module meets the demands of both beginners and experts. During the route design phase CARD/1 supports the planning engineer by setting standard values or by displaying warnings whenever value limits have been exceeded. The program also now provides a comprehensive and ready-to-print report for all route elements. Route design errors can thus be reduced to a minimum. The program checks any horizontal elements (straights, circular curves, transition curves) as well as the vertical elements (gradients, gradient changes) and the cant gradients. Even switches and platforms are taken into account. The designing engineer can decide whether to plan the route as a slab-track system or even suitable for trains using tilt technology. Assigning different speed strings immediately lets you assess the optimization potential and reconstruction expenditure when increasing the design speed – a real highlight.
Most of the routes of the Federal German Railways and similar regional networks are planned using CARD/1. The software’s seamless data model and uniform user interface guarantees one-stop project work: beginning with the geodetic network adjustment and the route design right through to the ready-to-deliver final drawings.
The company behind the software, IB&T GmbH, from Norderstedt near Hamburg, will launch its new CARD/1 Version 8.4 at the InnoTrans 2010 in Berlin. GEO DIGITAL GmbH from Düsseldorf, an IB&T subsidiary, will also be present at this trade fair. Its own software GEOPAC is widely used by local German public transport authorities who run their own track networks for trams and subways.
